Marie Rogers of Meansville, GA, described in more detail
on the website, was one of the premier Southern female potters of Georgia until
her death in December 2010. After her husband passed away in the early
1960's she was inspired to take up and continue the Rogers' family tradition of
pottery. A decade or so later she bought a kiln and the rest is southern folk
pottery history. From knowledgeable Marie experts this unique face jug was the only one made with her grandson Heath Coker. That's definitely remarkable, but also the fact that the pot is dated (2004) which is unheard for pots made by Marie. Then to make it even more remarkable the jug is stamped twice, hand signed by Marie, and furthermore one ear is marked with a 'M' and the other with an 'R'. There's even a touch of melted decoration on the face's forehead. The height is 8 inches. The condition is good, although
there are firecracks in the lower part of the front of the face, one behind one ear, a minor one above an eye, and there is one on the base.
