Southern Pots
7.14.2011 - History update: we’d like to take a look at some of the
connections between NC (primarily the Catawba Valley and Buncombe County) and
upstate SC amongst various pottery families.
This primarily focuses around the timeframe of 1870-1920.
4.14.2011 - New Content added: Marcus Sanders, Catawba Indian Master Potter.
The major impetus for SouthernPots.com is to spread the good news of Southern Pots and potters that we believe have not yet received enough recognition around the region and nation. There’s lots of good information on the web and our aim is to build on, organize, and regularly communicate and emphasize what is important for the active collector, occasional dabbler, or folk art investor in southern pottery. Most potters cannot afford to pot full-time, mainly because of the issues of health benefits and other costs of daily life. Our goal through southernpots.com and associated business will be to enhance their work into a viable enterprise that can support them and their families.
The inspirations behind SouthernPots.com are both Southern Pottery and the artists who have not yet been fully recognized for their work. While there is much good information available on the web, we will endeavor to build upon, organize and communicate that information which is important to the active collector, occasional dabbler, or folk art investor in southern pottery. Recognizing that most potters, for financial reasons, are not full time turners, it is our goal at SouthernPots.com to help them build and grow their businesses into viable and profitable enterprises.
